OK Jeepfeller - we read you Five by Five: you don't like anything but stock. See Post 98 in this link 79 CJ7 258 engine swap to 1981 model 258 No start That I devoted my time and efforts to, now lives in a bucket in my garage. SORRY-my own experience with that is what I base this on-The same goes for The Expensive "FAD" carb Mine went back on-I also now had a set of useless spark plug wires to boot. He also said he still had the old one-YES! a team hush dealee!ģ fill ups later-NO NOTICABLE CHANGE in performance or mileage-My daily schedule was mostly the same route Installed a Chevy type distributor in his. I tried another "GIMMICK/ FAD"- a feller came to me to help him install a new clutch in his CJ-7. I thought "I" was the reason the carb was not behaving right-SO, I continued to slog on with trying to get it to DO! I gave my "adjustments/ changes" at least 2 or 3 fill ups and MPG checks before I ADDED ANOTHER FACTOR to the equation. Which got me to 3 days before I had to fill up) I was A - nal with the records and I checked my MPGs every other day (fill ups-long way to work, 15 gallon tank!) (This was before I got the 21 gallon poly tank I KEPT RECORDS of any changes I had made to jetting-weather-conditions-Gimmicks added (such as "the tornado"-opposing magnets-etc. I could not make the thing do any better than with the Carter BBD I had taken off (which was capable of 16 MPGs on the highway) I once was attempting to make a "FAD" carburetor perform as it was advertised to do. I did not move the distributor but my initial first thought was timing. I may put it all back stock just to see as it only takes a short time to see what happens. I should of left it alone since there was no issues with driveability and power but i only heard good things about this upgrade so i figured I'd try it. And if I'm not in the perfect rpm spot where the rpms are up it goes completely flat. Not enough to say a backfire but pretty darn close. Also whenever I let off the throttle the engine kinda pops and rumbles through the exhaust quite loudly. Also the idle is definitely not as smooth as it was before. Finally idling ok I went for a drive and it stalled one time as I slowed and downshifted on a corner. It sat for a day or 2 after so the typical hard start but then it stalled like 5 times. I decided to do just the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires for the upgrade. Once it fires it stays running smoothly, never stalls and power is good at all rpm's. If longer (week plus) I always put a little gas down the carb. I'll start off by saying my Jeep always needed a lot of pumps on the gas peddle after sitting a few days.
